†~THIS SECTION WILL CONTAIN SPOILERS~† You have been warned. Alessandro XVIII is a character from the Anime/Manga Trinity Blood. The story behind it is that it is the future, and there are two major powers in the world... The Vatican, which is basically the Catholic Church, and the Empire... which is Vampires. Now, clearly, the Vampires don't like the Church, and vice-versa. Alessandro XVIII is the Pope. Which makes him, essentially the leader of the Vatican. However, Alessandro is actually a young teenager, or at least sounds and acts like one. He's young, and impressionable, and he can't stand yelling. He can be easily talked into things initially by his brother Cardinal Francesco di Medici. Early on in the series a nun, Esther Blanchett finds his Holiness out in a garden, and assumes he's lost. She starts to lead him back inside. Because Alessandro is so unsure of himself all the time, he can't manage to get out more than "Um... well... I um..." and similar phrases until she finally stops and he tells her that he isn't really lost. He was actually trying to run away, and hide. When he tells her about Francesco and how he wishes he could be as strong as him, Esther tells him that maybe Francesco is so hard on him, because he's trying to make him a better person. Not long after that Alessandro is dragged off, and Esther is really embarrassed to find out that she's been dragging the Pope himself around. But hey, who would expect the Pope to be an adolescent?
Later in the series, Alessandro has anothe somewhat major role, when his uncle that he was elected over shows up to visit. Of course, Alessandro with his innocent personality, would never suspect his uncle of doing anything underhanded. When his sister, Cardinal Catherina Sforza is accused of insulting their Uncle, Alessandro pipes in that she didn't mean it the way they took it.
Near the end of the series, Alessandro is in Albion with Esther Blanchet. And you know... they are really cute whenever they're together. They are attacked and Alessandro loses Esther. He is found by the Vampires in the back streets of the city. But, instead of wanting to kill him, although they're being mistreated, they try to talk to him about it. They receive a very strong message about what the pope is really like, when the little Vampire girl who found him in the street brings and injured rabbit to him. Alessandro isn't sure that he can help anyone, but he prays for the Rabbits recovery anyway. The Vampires watch in awe, and probably weren't expecting for him to do it. The little girl is so impressed that she takes him to her favorite place. Unfortunately, it's there that the group of Vampires who are turning to more violent methods find him. Or at least, the female Vampire in charge. The little girl tries to make her leave him alone, but to no avail. When the female Vampire begins yelling at the child, Alessandro asks her to stop. He admits that yelling scares him, and tells her that he'll go with her, because he knows their people are being mistreated, but asks her to please stop yelling.
While he's travelling with the Vampire, he is found by Brother Petro, and Sister Paula, the head of the Inquisitorial Department, and his right hand. It seems that they, and Catherina's AX team are both looking for Alessandro. Brother Petro attacks the Vampire, and seems to be having good luck beating her. However, before he can finish her off, Alessandro orders him to stop. Since Alessandro is the pope, and technically Petro's leader, Petro has no choice but to stop. He and Paula escort the pope back to safety. However, it probably left quite an impression on the Vampire's mind, since the Pope himself prevented her from being killed, and apparently planned to try and free her people from the life of slavery they had been living in the ghettos of the City...
